Why does it matter?

What electrostatic discharge is

It is the rapid transfer of electrical charge between two objects at different potentials, like the spark you feel when you touch a doorknob. In an electronic component it can change its characteristics, damage it or destroy it, and sometimes the failure only shows up later. Many components are damaged by less than 100 volts, and just sliding a part into or out of a bag can generate charge.

Antistatic bags

The three functions of ESD packaging

Packaging for static-sensitive components can perform up to three functions. Which ones you need depends on where you handle your product and where it travels.

Low charge generation

The layer that touches the part generates little charge when it is put into or taken out of the bag.

Dissipates charge

The material is conductive or dissipative, so the charge can be carried to ground instead of staying on the bag.

Discharge shielding

Protects the part from a direct discharge from outside the bag. It is required when the part leaves the protected area.

Inside and outside your plant

What is required of packaging in each zone?

The ESD protected area is the zone of your plant where sensitive parts are handled. This is what is required of packaging inside and outside it.

Frequently asked questions

The basics of ESD bags and how to get a quote.

What is an ESD bag?

It is an antistatic bag made to protect sensitive electronic components against electrostatic discharge while they are handled, stored or shipped.

Why isn't a regular plastic bag enough?

Lifting or moving a regular plastic bag can generate a lot of static charge, and putting a part into or taking it out of the bag also generates charge. ESD packaging is made to generate little charge, dissipate it and, if you need it, shield the part against discharges.

When do I need discharge shielding?

When the part leaves the ESD protected area of your plant, for example when you ship it to your customer. Inside the protected area, low charge generating packaging that is conductive or dissipative is required.

Can they be customized?

Yes. Our antistatic bags can be customized based on what you need to protect. Tell us your component and your process and we will help you.

How do I get a quote?

On WhatsApp. Send us the component you will protect, the approximate bag size and your volume, and we reply with options and pricing. Message us on WhatsApp.
